The best time to see bull sharks in Playa del Carmen is from November to February, when many pregnant females visit before heading to their secret birthing spots. Surprisingly, bull sharks are pretty shy, so bait is used to attract them. Without bait, seeing them is hit or miss. The dive site is just a short boat ride from the beach and super easy to get to. Once in the water, the group goes down to the sandy bottom, where dive guides line everyone up in front of the feeder. There’s a line to hold onto if you want. Once the feeder is set, it only takes a few minutes for the sharks to show up. The dive goes as deep as 24 meters (72 feet) and usually has little to no current. Before diving, there’s a thorough safety briefing where all your questions will be answered.
